St Thomas’ Church (the original half of it!) was consecrated on 26th November 1874, and the extension was consecrated on 21st December 1965.  Today, we are having a special service to celebrate this milestone in the story of St Thomas’ Church.

The special preacher will be the Rev. Ruth Elmes whose late mother, Janet Hipwell, was a cousin of the late Canon Trevor Hipwell.  Trevor was the first Rector of the Parish of Mount Merrion, when it was carved out of the Parish of Taney in 1956.  When Trevor retired in 1994, the Parish of Mount Merrion was grouped with the Parish of Booterstown and Carysfort.

The Bishop of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe, the Right Rev. Michael Burrows will preside at the service.  Michael’s late father was the Rector of Taney Parish, in which parish St Thomas’ Church was first built as a Chapel-of-Ease.

Unfortunately, the Archbishop of Dublin is unable to join us for this service.

The service will be live-streamed on

The Order of Service is attached

There will be tea/coffee/juice in the Monk Gibbon Hall after this service.
