And in addition to the carols, we have the readings from Scripture telling the story of God’s promise to humanity and its fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to mulled wine (non-alcoholic, so you can drive home safely!) and mince pies!

The collection will be in aid of Protestant Aid which is the Church of Ireland version of St Vincent de Paul and which helps people of all faiths and none.

Carol Singing for Dublin SIMON

Parish Carol Singing in aid of the Dublin Simon Community in Blackrock Shopping Centre on Thursday 19th December 2024 5pm-7pm

We will be singing with enthusiasm and gusto for Dublin Simon. If you can’t sing, come and shake a collection box! And if you can’t stay for all two hours, come for as long as you can!

Friday 20th December 2013 17.00-19.00.  It is a long stretch, so it is hoped that people may come along and sing/collect for even part of that time, even for 30 minutes or 1 hour.

It would be fantastic to get a HUGE response to this, and to do a little bit at Christmas for the homeless.  This is one of those occasions where we are not asking for money –although of course, you may make a donation if you wish—we are asking you to give some time and some energy for others this Christmas.

Please put this in your diary.  Bring your children, friends, etc., etc., to make a fantastic and enthusiastic sound for others!  If you are concerned that your singing might not be wonderful, and you think that you cannot take part… no such excuse will be entertained!!!!!  You can do an excellent job of rattling the collection boxes.

A Quiet Christmas
St Thomas’ Church, Mount Merrion Co. Dublin

This service is especially designed for those who, for a variety of reasons – illness, grief, etc – may want a quieter, more reflective service at Christmas time.  In some churches, it is called  Blue Christmas.

As this is a quiet and reflective service, we ask people not to bring their children to this service and to take them to the Christingle Service which will be in St Philip and St James’ Church this morning at 11.00.

A Quiet Christmas is followed by tea/coffee/juice in the Monk Gibbon Hall.

This is an all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the old Moravian custom of Christingle!    The Christingle is an orange representing the world, with a candle in it representing Christ as the light of the world.  It has a red ribbon around its circumference reminding us that Christ died for us and there a sticks with jelly-tots on them representing the produce of the world.

Parents/grandparents/guardians – please note that you must accompany your child(ren) to collect their Christingles and be vigilant to ensure that they and everyone else is safe.
