Mount Merrion Parishioner Elected Bishop!
Canon Ken Kearon, currently the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, was elected Bishop of Limerick, Ardfert, Aghadoe, Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, Kilmacduagh and Emly (known as the Dioceses of Limerick and Killaloe) on Monday 8 September 2014, in Christ Church Cathedral Dublin.
The former Bishop of Limerick and Killaloe, Bishop Trevor Williams retired at the end of July and the Archbishop of Dublin summoned the Electoral College which duly elected Canon Kearon.
Although Ken’s office is in London, Goatstown continued to be his family home, and he and his wife Jennifer, and their daughters worship in St Thomas’ Church.
This is a wonderful appointment for the Dioceses of Limerick and Killaloe, and also for the wider Church of Ireland, as Ken brings his many talents and gifts, as well as his experience of the Anglican Communion to the role. There is only one Secretary of the Anglican Communion; no one else can bring to the Church of Ireland the combination of gifts and experience that Ken has.
There is much delight in the parishes at Ken’s appointment, and we assure him of our prayers as he prepares to begin this new sphere of ministry and, he and Jennifer prepare to move to Adare, County Limerick.
No date has been set yet for his consecration (ordination) as a bishop.
