Things To Do in Lent

Lent begins tomorrow, Ash Wednesday. There will be a service of Holy Communion in St Thomas’ Church at 10.30 and there will be Christian Meditation in the Canon Osborne Barr Room at 20.00.

Lent is a time of self-assessment, in relation to our understanding of ourselves as spiritual people, and specifically as Christians. Lent is a time to take some time to focus, and to grow in our faith, and in our relationship with God and Christ.

To help to do that, we are encouraging parishioners to take up something and to commit to it as a discipline during the season of Lent.

The suggested ways are:

1. Go to Christian Meditation.
There are two groups in the parish. Both take place in the Canon Osborne Barr Room of St Philip and St James’ Parish Centre.

Tuesday afternoon… 3.30pm-4.10pm
Wednesday evening… 8pm–8.40pm

Beginners welcome at either group.

2. Go to the Midweek Holy Communion Service in St Thomas’ Church on a Wednesday at 10.30. This is a short service followed by a cup of tea or coffee at the back of the church. All are welcome.

3. Go to church on Sunday. If you are not a regular at the Sunday services, why not try and make the effort to go to church each Sunday during Lent? There are at least two services, usually three, and sometimes four services, for you to choose from on a Sunday. You will be very welcome.
